Poyry, a global consulting and engineering firm, signed a contract for the development of four hydropower projects on the Murat River in Turkey, the company reported.

Group Plans $1B Turkish Wind Power Investment
Fersa and Saran set up FerSar Enerji to build a wind farm with 200 megawatts of wind energy capacity in Turkey, said Sadettin Saran, chairman of Saran Holding.

Istanbul-based Saran Holding, which is active in energy, media, defense, health and broadcasting, will invest $1 billion in Turkey by 2014 together with its partner, Fersa Energias Renovables, a Spanish clean-energy company.

Schneider Electric Regional HQ in Turkey - Renewable Energy a Focus

The French company Schneider Electric has declared Turkey to be its headquarters in the Middle East and Balkan region, which covers 27 countries. Noting that Schneider has recently focused on renewable-energy resources, new regional manager Turhan Turhangil added: “We now have references in infrastructure and energy management in both hydroelectric and wind-power plants and solar energy. At present, five wind-power plants in Turkey are being built through Schneider Electric’s solutions.”

$2.1B for Turkish Power Plant Modernization Including Hydro
The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources is planning to launch tenders next year for the rehabilitation of thermal and hydroelectric power plants, as part of a process that began in 2005.  
The total cost of tenders is expected to amount to $2.1 billion. As of now, TL 542 million has been spent on the modernization of 386 of the country’s 565 electrical power plants. In line with the Kyoto Protocol, the ministry is planning to finish upgrading thermal power plants by 2013 and hydroelectric plants by 2014. Also on the agenda in 2010 will be a new tender for the construction of nuclear power plants.

Ukrainian Company Offers Biogas to Electricity for Alcohol PlantsNew waste-management technology has been developed by Ukrainian construction company ZORG Ukraine, designed specifically for plants that produce alcohol. Unique technological upgrade allows the plant to recycle production-wastes, manufacture high-quality fertilizer and biogas, that’s instantly converted into thermal or electrical power. “Biogas plants can cut-down production expenses within the alcohol-production industry sector to a considerable degree,” – commented company’s executive director Igor Aksiutov.

Akenerji Borrows for Turkish Hydro Development
The Industrial Development Bank of Turkey (TSKB) has extended two loans with a total value of 84 million euros to MEM Enerji Elektrik Üretim A.Ş., a subsidiary of Akenerji Elektrik Üretim A.Ş., to be utilized in the construction of three hydroelectric power plants. The loan comprises $79 million and 28 million euros.

Energy Development in SW Turkish City of Kahramanmaraş Discussed

The southeastern city of Kahramanmaraş, one of Turkey’s textile centers, has begun to attract attention with its recent energy investments. A total of 30 hydroelectric power plants will be constructed in Kahramanmaraş, where the building of other plants is also ongoing.
