The objective of this initiative is to advance the development and financing of renewable energy projects in the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) countries of operation.  This region comprises 29 countries located throughout Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.

German Backing Planned for Azerbaijan Renewables
 
Baku, Fineko/abc.az. The German government has backed the initiative of German development bank KfW in the area of assistance to projects of renewable and alternative energy sources in Azerbaijan. The Baku-based KfW representative office reports that Germany’s budget has reserved 40 million euro for these ends.

BUDAPEST, Jan 26 (Reuters) - Hungary expects three new ethanol plants to come on stream in 2011 which would greatly increase capacity and absorb over one million tonnes of maize per year from the market, an agriculture ministry official said.

Pellet Operation in Poland is Progressing
 
MHG Systems Ltd and Polish Research Innovation Group Ltd – R.I.G. – plan an enterprise resource management system for pellet production and short rotation forestry (SRF) in Poland.  As a first phase the delivery consists of management systems for R.I.G.´s own pellet production based on agro wastes, wood wastes and SRF. MHG Pellet ERP and MHG SRF ERP enable tracing of origin of feedstock, management and monitoring  of feedstock quality and quantity, logistics, and development of carbon footprint of pellet supply chain.

Equipment Ordered for Large Wood Pelleting Plant in Russia
 

International technology Group ANDRITZ will supply all process equipment for a complete wood pelleting plant to the Russian pulp and paper producer Vyborgskaja Cellulosa in Vyborg. The order value is approximately 40 MEUR, start-up of the plant is scheduled in the second half of 2010.
With a production capacity of approximately 900,000 t/a (corresponding to about 125 t/h), this wood pelleting plant will be the largest worldwide.

Group Plans $1B Turkish Wind Power Investment
 
Fersa and Saran set up FerSar Enerji to build a wind farm with 200 megawatts of wind energy capacity in Turkey, said Sadettin Saran, chairman of Saran Holding.

Istanbul-based Saran Holding, which is active in energy, media, defense, health and broadcasting, will invest $1 billion in Turkey by 2014 together with its partner, Fersa Energias Renovables, a Spanish clean-energy company.

Montenegro to Tender Bids for 4 Hydro Plants
 Montenegro will invite companies to bid for construction of four hydropower plants with a combined capacity of 242 megawatts to reduce dependency on electricity imports, a government official said on Wednesday. In a pre-tender procedure that will begin at the end of January or in early February, companies will be given three months to express their interest in a project, Nikola Jablan of the economy ministry said.

Slovakian Shipyard Builds Ships With "Skysails" for Fuel Savings
 
The “Theseus” last year became the world’s first cargo ship to be powered with high altitude kite-like sails tethered on lines 100 metres in the air.
SkySails cannot power a ship unaided, but it can reduce the amount of gas needed by up to 80 percent without any additional crew or technology.
The “Theseus” is one of three new Rhine class ships being built for Wessels at the Komarno shipyard in Slovakia.

US Bioethanol Giant Fagen to Build Plant in Hungary
 
The US based ethanol giant Fagen is going to construct a bioethanol plant in Hungary, business daily Napi Gazdasag said, citing overseas press reports. The project will most probably be located in Dunafoldvar, a town 100 kms south of Budapest along the Danube. Works on the new plant are planned to start in April.

Slovenian Hydro Uses Biodegradable Lubricants
 
The 33-mw Boötanj plant, which began operation in May 2006, is the first hydro facility in Slovenia to use environmentally compatible hydraulic oil. Owner Holding Slovenske Elektrarne (HSE) uses a biodegrable lubricant from Panolin AG in the hydraulic system of five radial gates.
